Gotham FC look to close out its three-game road trip on a high note by defeating the Houston Dash on Saturday night.
Should Gotham earn a victory at Shell Energy Stadium, it will extend the Bats’ unbeaten streak to six consecutive matches.
Injuries and player departures have tested Gotham during the recent stretch. Key defender Emily Sonnett will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery, joining Kayla Duran, who also suffered a season-ending knee injury in April.
Still, Gotham keeps finding solutions amid the untimely challenges thrown at them during the 2026 campaign. The Bats enter the weekend in second place with 34 points and could move at least temporarily ahead of first-place Washington (36 points) by securing three points in Space City.
Gotham Keeps Finding Answers Amid Adversity
“Obviously, we know the situation we’re in and the reality is everyone just coming together, making sure we stick to what we can do,” acting head coach Shaun Harris explained during Friday’s pre-match press conference.
“The injuries and stuff is out of our control, but it’s making sure that we can control and keep believing in the process. I think if we can get another win, it’ll really show the character and the depth of this team to be able to get through anything. I think that’s one of the keys to be a championship team.”
Gotham handled adversity all the way to winning last year’s NWSL Championship. That said, the current season has seen reigning NWSL Rookie of the Year Lilly Reale traded to Boston Legacy FC, the departure of all-time franchise leading scorer Esther González, constant injuries to the backline and head coach Juan Carlos Amorós stepping away from the club for multiple periods to attend to parental duties.
World-class signings like two-time NWSL MVP Sam Kerr, winger Guro Reiten and midfielder Denise O’Sullivan have served as continued statements of Gotham’s ambition.
Denise O’Sullivan Injury Adds Another Challenge
Yet, the Bats have already run into bad luck with an injury to O’Sullivan, who arrived on July 14.
The 32-year-old Irish international recently suffered a knee injury, which Harris described as a “freak accident.” At this time, the extent of the injury is unknown as O’Sullivan traveled back to New Jersey to be evaluated.
“It was in one of the training sessions,” Harris said on Friday. “It was like a freak accident, something happened with the ball and knee, but I’m not sure what the extent of the injury is. I still need to get an update because she flew back to [New] Jersey. So once we get an update, I’ll know. But it was just one of those weird things. I think she tried to block a shot or something.”

Ann-Katrin Berger was not named to the matchday roster. Hogan continues to start in goal.

Khyah Harper Could Make Dash Debut Against Gotham
The Dash acquired forward Khyah Harper from Gotham FC on Tuesday. Harper could potentially make her Houston debut against her former club on Saturday.
Gotham rookie forward Andrea Kitahata hopes that Harper doesn’t cause too much damage should she be handed her debut by Dash head coach Fabrice Gautrat.
“We will be very happy to see her,” Kitahata said on Friday. “Hopefully, she doesn’t do her big one against us. I could root for maybe a Khyah goal, but a Gotham three points, we’ll leave it at that.
“It’s always great to see friends and familiar faces on the other team. It’s kind of how the NWSL is at this stage. Everyone kind of knows each other, but really happy for her. She’s an excellent player. We feel the loss over here at Gotham, but it’s a great opportunity for her. Wishing her all the best, except [Saturday].”
Saturday’s match will stream on NWSL+ with kick-off set for 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
