Lilly Reale can hold her head up high knowing that she contributed in a major way to an unforgettable season in Gotham FC history.

Even though her stint with the club lasted just one and a half years, her impact will be felt for years to come.

It’s clear that the Boston Legacy have acquired a high-potential defender who has already demonstrated an ability to perform in pressured NWSL and international matches.

As a 2025 rookie, she immediately stepped into a key role for the Bats in a campaign that ended with a Concacaf W Champions Cup and NWSL Championship double and culminated in a ticker tape parade through the “Canyon of Heroes” in Lower Manhattan.

Lilly was undoubtedly “The Reale Deal” for Gotham. She was an indispensable member of a back line that allowed just 25 goals in 26 regular-season matches, which was the second fewest of all NWSL clubs in 2025.

Reale played in every regular season match, starting 21 times and coming on as a substitute in five matches.

When the NWSL playoffs came around, Reale was instrumental in fortifying a back line that only allowed one goal in three postseason matches and shut out the Orlando Pride in the semifinals before blanking the Washington Spirit in the championship game.

“What you really saw in the playoffs was that New York grit and passion that comes out,” Reale told South Ward Central in March. “Just a group of girls who really wanted to work for one another.

“Our team was so special in that regardless of how things were going, we always felt like we could go the extra inch and put in the extra tackle for one another.”

In defense and in attack, Reale was ever-present. Last season, she led Gotham with 36 interceptions and finished second on the roster with 54 tackles. She ranked seventh in the NWSL with eight successful take-ons into the penalty area and 12th with 69 crosses.

Reale got her NWSL championship ring and will take that experience to her home state of Massachusets, where she’ll likely play a major role in turning the first-year Legacy into winners.
