Gotham FC’s roster has continued to evolve during the 2026 NWSL secondary transfer window. The latest outgoing is young forward Khyah Harper.
On Tuesday, Gotham agreed to send Harper to the Houston Dash on a free transfer.
Harper departs the Bats having made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
The Lino Lakes, Minnesota native won the 2025 NWSL Championship, the 2024-25 Concacaf W Champions Cup and the 2026 NWSL Challenge Cup during her time with Gotham.
Harper Reflects on Her Time With Gotham FC
“Thank you so much, Gotham FC,” Harper said in a statement on Tuesday. “I am so grateful for this amazing club and for receiving my first professional contract here. Having the privilege to grow, compete and learn from people who were once my idols is something I will cherish for the rest of my career.
“This is such a special place, filled with incredible people who have made this journey unforgettable. To the coaches, my teammates, the staff, the fans and supporters, thank you for believing in me and for the trust you’ve shown me from day one. I’ll always be thankful for everything this club has given me.”
Yael Averbuch West Praises Harper’s Impact
Gotham FC’s president of soccer operations, Yael Averbuch West, thanked Harper for her contributions across two seasons.
“We’re grateful to Khyah for everything she brought to Gotham FC during her time with our club,” Averbuch West stated. “We wish her nothing but success in this next chapter with Houston.”
The exit of Harper and the mutual termination of Esther González’s contract may give Gotham the flexibility needed to add defensive depth.
Gotham’s backline has been tested by injuries throughout the 2026 season, and veteran defender Emily Sonnett recently underwent surgery after she suffered an apparent non-contact left knee injury.
The Bats will face Bay FC on Wednesday, followed by Houston on Saturday night at Shell Energy Stadium. It’s unclear if Harper will be acclimated in time to be part of Houston’s matchday roster.

Harper took part in her first training session with the Dash on Tuesday afternoon.
