Red Bull New York completed some late business before Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window closed at 1 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.
Reinforcements were needed after the Red Bulls struggled in the weeks following the World Cup break, taking just four points in seven matches.
Honduras international midfielder David Ruiz was acquired on Wednesday afternoon on loan from Inter Miami CF.
“David is a player who can impact the game in a lot of different ways,” Red Bull New York head coach Michael Bradley said. “He has the ability to play forward, cover ground, compete, and make things happen with the ball. We are excited about the opportunity to work with him and we believe he can be an important addition to the group.”
Ruiz Joins Red Bull New York Teammates on Thursday
Ruiz joined up with his new teammates on Thursday morning at RWJBarnabas Health Red Bulls Performance Center in Morris Township, New Jersey. He will remain on loan with New York through the end of the 2026 MLS season and the Red Bulls retain the option to purchase him from the Herons at the conclusion of the loan.
To complete the deal, the Red Bulls sent $75,000 in 2027 General Allocation Money (GAM) to Inter Miami.
The 22-year-old midfielder spent the last four seasons at Inter Miami, where he scored four goals and recorded four assists in 82 appearances across all competitions.
“We are excited to welcome David to Red Bull New York and we look forward to helping him to take the next step in his career,” Red Bull New York head of sport Julian de Guzman said. “David is a talented midfielder, who brings a combination of technical quality and competitiveness, and has already gained valuable MLS experience, and we believe his profile fits very well with the way we want to play.”
Devin Padelford Arrives From Minnesota United
After the window slammed shut, the Red Bulls completed another loan deal by bringing in 23-year-old defender Devin Padelford from Minnesota United FC.
Padelford can line up at left-back or center-back, though it’s likely he’ll see more action at left-back where he will compete for starting opportunities with 18-year-old Matthew Dos Santos.
“We are looking forward to working with Devin and adding him to our group,” Bradley stated. “He has good physical qualities, he’s competitive, and he has shown that he plays with real intensity. We are excited for him to get started and begin integrating him with the team.”
Padelford will join up with the Red Bulls later on Thursday afternoon as the club prepares for a four-game road trip which opens with a visit to Lumen Field on Saturday. The Red Bulls will face the Seattle Sounders FC at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
The 6-foot defender has made 48 career MLS appearances for Minnesota, registering two goals and one assist. He logged 16 MLS appearances this season, recording two goal contributions.
“Devin is a player who brings a combination of physicality, versatility, and a strong mentality to our group,” de Guzman said. “We are excited to add him to our roster and look forward to seeing him contribute to the team.”
New York acquired Padelford in exchange for the discovery priority on Cherrion Valerius.
Roald Mitchell Heads to Viborg FF on Loan
The Red Bulls also loaned forward Roald Mitchell to Danish Superliga side Viborg FF through June 30, 2027.
“Roald has made significant strides in his development over the past year, and this move presents an excellent opportunity for him to continue that progress in a new environment,” de Guzman explained. “Competing in a highly competitive league will provide valuable experience and help further his growth as a striker.”
The deal also includes the option for Viborg FF to purchase Mitchell at the loan’s conclusion.
