Julian Hall’s future will remain with Red Bull New York… for now.
ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle was the first to report that Hall has signed a four-year U-22 initiative contract through the 2029-20 MLS season.
The deal makes Hall the youngest American to sign a U-22 initiative contract and ends speculation that he would move to a European club during the current summer transfer window.
New Deal Ends Talk of Hall Moving Clubs This Summer
Hall was recently linked to a host of European clubs including Atlético Madrid, RB Leipzig, Newcastle United and Hull City.
Red Bull New York confirmed the news of Hall’s extension at noon on Thursday. He is the first Red Bull New York academy product to sign a U-22 initiative deal with the club.
“I’m really happy to sign a new contract with Red Bull New York,” Hall said. “This club has been a huge part of my development, and I’m grateful for everyone who has believed in me and helped me get to this point. I feel like I’m continuing to grow as a player, and I’m excited to keep working, keep improving and help this team achieve our goals.”
Keeping Hall in a Red Bull New York kit for the short term was absolutely essential. Had the Red Bulls sold Hall, it likely would have sunk the club’s playoff hopes. With Hall’s immediate future decided, there won’t be any distractions and he’ll be able to concentrate on his football.
The 18-year-old forward has scored nine goals and recorded five assists through 21 MLS starts this season and was a 2026 MLS All-Star. He has made 56 career appearances for New York since his MLS debut on September 30, 2023, which came against Chicago Fire FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
De Guzman: Hall ‘Will Continue To Play Significant Role’
“Julian has become an important part of our first team, and we believe he will continue to play a significant role for us,” Red Bull New York head of sport Julian de Guzman said. “He has earned the trust of his teammates and coaching staff through his performances, his mentality and the way he continues to grow. This new contract reflects how highly we value Julian and the role we see him playing for our club.”
For the long-term, Hall’s transfer value will increase as he continues develop and improve. The years left on his new deal will give the Red Bulls protection from losing him for a suboptimal fee.
Though it feels inevitable that Hall will eventually move to a big stage in Europe, there is plenty of work ahead for him and his Red Bull teammates as the competition for playoff spots will intensify over the final months of the MLS season.
Hall and the Red Bulls will host the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, with kickoff at Sports Illustrated Stadium scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
