It’s clear that Red Bull New York forward Julian Hall is on the fast track to a promising career that will one day earn him an opportunity to move overseas.
Several European clubs have reportedly shown interest in the 18-year-old prodigy and inquired about his availability. While it’s possible that Hall could move on from the Red Bulls during the current summer transfer window, it would have to take the right offer and represent a logical next step for his career.
Back in February, Hall was asked about his future ambitions during Red Bull New York’s media day. He did not conceal his desire to one day test himself in Europe’s top leagues.
“In my future, I do want to take the next step to Europe, maybe,” he said on February 18. “For right now, it’s with the Red Bulls.”
Hall’s Transfer Value Continues To Climb
But that was before Hall became the youngest player in MLS regular-season history to record a hat trick at 18 years and 50 days old — and prior to his stock rising in an attention-grabbing season where he has scored nine goals and recorded five assists in 21 MLS starts.
European clubs could continue to test the Red Bulls’ resistance to selling him through the end of the summer window. The English Premier League transfer window closes on September 1 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time, while the Spanish La Liga transfer window slams shut on the same day but one minute earlier.
Italy’s Serie A transfer window also ends on September 1, but at 2 p.m. Eastern Time, while all incoming transfers must be concluded by August 31 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time in both the German Bundesliga and France’s Ligue 1.
All indications point to the Red Bulls being unwilling to allow Hall to depart during the current summer window. The Red Bulls hold a club option to extend his contract for the 2027 season, and New York would stand to command a higher transfer fee in the future as Hall’s market value continues to rise.
That said, player departures can move quickly in football, and it’s impossible to dismiss the possibility of a European club breaking the Red Bulls’ resolve with an offer that is too good to pass up.
For now, Hall will continue to strive toward individual improvement while playing a key role in Red Bull New York’s push for a playoff berth.
Michael Bradley Sees a Complete Attacker in Hall
The 5-foot-9 forward has thrived under the tutelage of former United States men’s national team captain Michael Bradley, who is in his first season in charge as head coach of the Red Bulls.
“Julian is getting himself into really good spots,” Bradley said last Friday. “He’s getting chances in just about every game. He’s helping us create opportunities. So we are really, really pleased with Jules’ development and the way that he continues to play. For any attacking player in the world of any age on any team, there are little ebbs and flows in a season — that is just how it goes.
“He’s a complete attacker, he has speed, he can take balls on the move. He can get into really dangerous spots inside the penalty area. He has the ability to play really in any spot across the front line and he gives an incredible amount in terms of his work against the ball, his pressing, his sprinting, his chasing. So we’re really pleased with Jules, and he continues to push himself in a really good way.”
Hall and the Red Bulls will next face the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, with kickoff at Sports Illustrated Stadium scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
