Red Bull New York midfielder Adri Mehmeti has yet to decide his national team future.
The 17-year-old is eligible to represent the United States and Albania and has previously represented both nations at the under-15 level.
Mehmeti was asked by Favian Renkel of Kickbase Fantasy Soccer during Monday’s press conference if he looks forward to possibly representing the United States men’s senior national team in the coming years.
The 6-foot midfielder, who operates as a ball-playing No. 6 did not reveal whether he was leaning toward the United States or Albania and remains focused on improving at club level.
Mehmeti Keeps USMNT and Albania Options Open

“I’m still open to anything,” Mehmeti replied. “Of course, being in those conversations is great, but I’m here right now. I’m focused here because this is where all development comes. Then that’s eventually where the national team comes in.
“But I’m focused here right now, and I’m going to keep training and playing games to the best of my ability to be the best version of myself possible every time I step in the field.”
Mehmeti has made 18 appearances in his debut MLS season and has completed 87 percent of his passes. He has recorded one goal and collected five assists in MLS play. Only Red Bull New York captain Emil Forsberg and winger Cade Cowell have registered more assists (seven apiece) during the 2026 MLS season.
Mehmeti and Julian Hall Could Play Key Roles in 2030 USMNT World Cup Vision

Alongside 2026 MLS All-Star forward Julian Hall, Mehmeti could provide the United States with two high-potential talents should the duo opt to play for the Stars and Stripes.
Hall has frequently been asked during media availabilities and in other settings about whether he will choose the United States or Poland.
The 18-year-old is eligible to represent Poland through his mother Agnieszka’s Polish ancestry. Hall has only represented the United States at both under-15 and under-17 levels.
As USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino looks ahead to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, it would be ideal to have Mehmeti and Hall competing for places for the United States during the next cycle.
For now, it remains to be seen whether the pair of promising Red Bulls youngsters will commit their international futures to the United States.
