Defender Joshua Munson is the latest Red Bull New York Academy product to sign a professional contract.
The 17-year-old Red Bull New York II center-back put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year MLS NEXT Pro contract that runs through the 2028-29 season.
His new contract will go into effect on January 1, 2027. Munson will join the first team as a Homegrown Player for the 2029-30 MLS season and his contract includes options for the 2030-31 and 2031-32 seasons.
“Josh is a young center-back who has made tremendous strides in recent months, both on and off the field,” Red Bull New York II head coach Dominik Wohlert said on Tuesday. “We are incredibly excited to have him with us for the next few years and will continue to push and support his development.”
Munson has made 14 appearances for Red Bull II since making his MLS NEXT Pro debut on May 30 away to Carolina Core FC. He has played 826 minutes this season and has scored one goal.

“We have been very happy with Josh’s development since he initially joined the club as a player in our Academy system,” Red Bull New York technical director Tiger Fitzpatrick said. “His desire and commitment to achieve the dream of a professional playing career is being rewarded with this next step and we are excited to continue working with him to the end.”
His bright future has been recognized by United States under-17 youth national team, as he recently participated in U-17 USYNT training camp.
Red Bull New York II closed out its 2026 regular season with a 2-1 home defeat to Huntsville City FC on Sunday.
The Baby Bulls are set to play a rematch against Huntsville in the MLS NEXT Pro play-in round, which will be held during the week of October 5-11.
Red Bull II will host the play-in match due to its superior finish in the Eastern Conference. No date or time for the match has been confirmed at the time of this article’s posting.
