Gotham FC have announced plans to create a structured youth development system aligning with the club’s launch of its first dedicated training facility.
The former Red Bull New York training center in Whippany, N.J., will be converted into a state-of-the-art 27,000-square-foot facility that is projected to reach completion in the summer of 2027.
Gotham FC president of soccer operations, Yael Averbuch West, has long desired to establish a true youth-to-first-team feeder system that allows the club to maximize its relationships with regional youth clubs while forming a pathway for emerging young talents to be guided at various levels, with the possibility of one day graduating to Gotham’s first team.
What the Pro Player Pathway Means for Gotham FC

Back in early May, South Ward Central spoke with Averbuch West about the challenge of building a roster without the benefit of having a reserve side and dedicated youth teams.
“Without having a true pipeline and eventually a true second team where we can have player movement and things that are in the future of the game, those are all really big challenges for us to be able to construct and maintain a roster that is absolutely top competitiveness in the league, which is our objective at all times,” Averbuch West explained.
On Monday, Gotham unveiled its plans to expand the club’s Pro Player Pathway, which will include an under-23 team that will transition rising youngsters into the Bats’ first team.
Gotham will continue to partner with top youth clubs and plan to hold annual showcases to identify elite emerging players both inside and outside the local area. The club’s development and residency center will feature fall and spring programming for under-16 and under-18 players.
The club’s Development Center Residency Program will be the first fully funded residency program in the history of United States women’s soccer. Players will be provided with housing and education resources in addition to the opportunity to develop in a professional environment with specialized coaching and high-performance standards.
Averbuch West Sees Pathway as a Key to Gotham’s Long-Term Success

“Through our Pro Player Pathway, we are committed to building the clearest bridge from elite youth talent to the professional game, especially in our region,” Averbuch West stated on Monday. “This initiative allows us to invest in developing the whole player and person through training, education, housing, support and meaningful competition. It is a program I would have dreamed to be part of myself as an aspiring professional coming up in this area.”
Regional Partnerships Remain Central to Gotham’s Vision

Gotham’s professional pathway director, Pierre Soubrier, believes that the club’s expanded youth system will produce the stars of tomorrow and produce lasting benefits for local youth soccer, the NWSL and women’s soccer as a whole.
“To accelerate the growth of women’s soccer, we are creating a professionalized environment that unlocks new opportunities for aspiring young players and develops the future of this league,” Soubrier explained. “The launch of our residency program marks a pivotal milestone for development in this country. As this initiative expands, we remain deeply committed to supporting our local alliance clubs as they guide top talent through this pathway.”
After launching the Gotham FC Alliance in 2024, the reigning NWSL champions have partnered with youth clubs across the region to identify promising talents and provide development resources. The program also offers coaching education.
Under Averbuch West’s leadership in coordination with the club’s ownership, Gotham has continued its growth into a world-class club on and off the pitch. The organization has been guided by its upward-trending club motto: “always building, never finished.”
With a deep scouting network already in place, a top-tier training facility on the way and the rollout of an elite youth system, Gotham’s future looks increasingly bright.
