Gotham FC have traded Sarah Schupansky to Boston Legacy FC in exchange for $50,000 in allocation money and $30,000 in intraleague transfer fee funds.

The 22-year-old midfielder played an important role in helping Gotham earn a 2025 trophy double. She started in the 2024-25 Concacaf W Champions Cup final victory over Tigres UANL and the 2025 NWSL Championship win over the Washington Spirit.

Schupansky showed plenty of promise throughout her rookie season and led Gotham with five assists in 2025.

“Sarah has played an important role at Gotham FC over the past two seasons, and we’re grateful for the contributions she has made to our group,” Gotham FC president of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West said on Friday.

“She has approached every day with professionalism, dedication and a commitment to the club, and we’re proud to have played a part in the beginning of her professional career. We wish Sarah continued success in this next chapter.”

As Gotham’s roster evolved to become increasingly veteran-heavy, Schupansky’s role decreased. She only played a total of 14 minutes across Gotham’s five most recent matches and was an unused substitute in three of them.

Now, she’ll have a fresh start with the Legacy, where she’ll be reunited with defender Lilly Reale, whom Gotham traded to Boston in mid-June.

“I’m beyond grateful and excited to be joining Boston Legacy,” Schupansky said on Friday. “Thank you to the entire organization for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be part of such an incredible club. I’m honored for the chance to contribute to this team and help them build the legacy that this city deserves. I can’t wait for what’s to come!”

With Reale and Schupansky now on Boston’s roster, the Legacy will have the opportunity to fully unleash their talents.

Reale won the 2025 NWSL Rookie of the Year and the 2025 U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year. Both players delivered for Gotham in pressure matches.

Legacy duo Ella Stevens and Josefine Hasbo were also Gotham teammates during Schupansky’s rookie year.

Boston believes that Schupansky’s creativity and vision will add a spark to their attack.

“Sarah is a chance creator who adds real quality to our attack,” Boston Legacy general manager Domè Guasch stated. “At 22 years old, she has already proven herself at the highest level with Gotham, and we believe that her best years are still ahead of her. We’re glad to have her in Boston.”

While Reale has already established herself as part of Emma Hayes’ United States women’s national team, the move to Boston offers Schupansky the chance to make a strong impression at club level and possibly be a part of the next wave of USWNT talents after the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Legacy supporters will soon have the opportunity to see Schupansky in Legacy green. She will wear the No. 23 shirt for her new club.

The Legacy will travel to face the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by a home match against Angel City FC on Monday, August 31 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
