Gotham FC announced on Tuesday that midfielder Rose Lavelle has agreed to a contract extension through 2029.
Back on September 1, ESPN‘s Jeff Kassouf was first to report that Lavelle would re-sign through 2029 and that Gotham would utilize the High Impact Player (HIP) Rule.
On Tuesday, Gotham FC’s president of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West spoke of her delight after the 31-year-old United States women’s national team star committed to a long-term deal.
“Rose is one of the best players in the world, and we’re proud that she has committed her future to Gotham FC,” Averbuch West said. “She has an extraordinary ability to change games, and we’ve seen her deliver for this club in the biggest moments. Just as importantly, Rose embodies the ambition and competitive standard we want at Gotham FC. We’re thrilled that she will continue to be such an important part of what we’re building.”
Lavelle Focused on Bringing More Trophies To Gotham
Lavelle is looking forward to competing for more trophies alongside her Gotham teammates. Her efforts could help Gotham accomplish a treble in 2026 after the club won the NWSL Challenge Cup in June while being on pace to win the NWSL Shield and hoping to repeat as NWSL champions.
“I’m incredibly happy to extend my time with Gotham FC,” Lavelle said after signing the extension. “From the moment I arrived, this club has challenged me to keep growing and has given me the opportunity to compete for championships alongside a great group of players and staff. I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished together, but I feel like there is still so much ahead of us. I’m excited to continue building something special here.”
Lavelle, Gotham FC Set Sights on Treble
Lavelle and the Bats could clinch the NWSL Shield in the coming weeks. First-place Gotham is currently six points ahead of second-place San Diego Wave FC with four NWSL regular-season matches remaining.
Earlier this month, Lavelle was nominated for the 2026 Ballon d’Or Féminin. The 5-foot-4 midfielder has scored four goals and recorded two assists through 22 regular-season games.
Gotham will host Angel City FC on Sunday at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The 1 p.m. contest will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
