Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit are set to play in front of an expected crowd of at least 30,000 when The Queens Classic at Citi Field kicks off on July 15.
On Monday evening, Gotham FC announced that 30,000 tickets have been distributed for the highly anticipated match against the rival Spirit. It will be the first time that sides have met since Rose Lavelle’s dramatic 80th-minute goal won last year’s NWSL championship for Gotham.
Momentum Builds Ahead of The Queens Classic

The showdown match will be the highest attended women’s sporting event in New York City history. Previously, the 2023 U.S. Open Women’s Singles Final between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka at Arthur Ashe Stadium drew 28,143 spectators.
“Anytime those games have been put on, fans have showed out,” Gotham midfielder Sarah Schupansky previously told South Ward Central. “It just proves that if you commit the space to it and you have the events, people will show up. I think the New York and New Jersey fans are going to be no different. The fan base here is absolutely incredible, and they’re so supportive of all of us as people, as much as players, which is so special.”
Sam Kerr’s Gotham Return Adds Another Layer of Intrigue

All-time leading NWSL goalscorer Sam Kerr rejoined Gotham on Monday, and her return to the Bats will add extra buzz ahead of the midsummer contest in Queens.
Kerr joins an already star-studded cast on Gotham that includes Lavelle, Guro Reiten, Jaedyn Shaw and Ann-Katrin Berger, ready to square off against Washington’s ensemble of big names like Trinity Rodman, Leicy Santos, Gift Monday and Tara Rudd.
With The Queens Classic little more than two weeks away, the excitement is growing. Let’s see if the Bats and the Spirit can pack the house.
