Sekou Koné is the latest Red Bull New York II product to be rewarded with a first-team contract.

On Friday, the Red Bulls signed the 19-year-old Malian midfielder to an MLS contract that runs through the 2027-28 season. His deal includes options for the 2028-29 and 2029-30 seasons.

Koné has appeared in two MLS matches in his debut season. He made his MLS debut away to Los Angeles FC on September 9 and earned his first career MLS start against St. Louis CITY SC in front of home fans at Sports Illustrated Stadium on September 30.

Red Bull New York head coach Michael Bradley is looking forward to continuing to assist the young midfielder’s development.

“Sekou has really good qualities for a young midfielder,” Bradley said. “He has continued to grow and develop throughout the season and we believe he is ready to take the next step in his career.”

Koné initially joined Red Bull New York II on a one-year loan from Malian club Yeelen Olympique on February 4. He made 18 appearances for Red Bull II this season and recorded his first career MLS NEXT Pro assist against CT United on July 19.

His box-to-box running and calmness in possession have impressed Red Bull New York head of sport Julian de Guzman.

“We’re excited to welcome Sekou to the first team,” de Guzman said. “He’s a talented young midfielder who shows great composure on the ball and has the ability to cover a lot of ground. Sekou has performed at a high level for RBNY II this season and has earned this opportunity. We look forward to seeing him continue his development and contribute at the next level.”

Saturday’s match between Red Bull New York and San Diego FC is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time at Sports Illustrated Stadium. The match will be broadcast on Apple TV.
