Attacking midfielder Jaedyn Shaw’s career continues to surge at Gotham FC.
The 21-year-old is enjoying an electric start to her second season with the Bats after her clutch efforts in her first year with the club helped Gotham capture the 2025 NWSL championship.
After brushing off an early-season hamstring injury, Shaw has recorded three goal contributions (two goals, one assist) in her last three NWSL matches.
On Saturday, Shaw capitalized on a rebound chance to put Gotham ahead 1-0 in the 37th minute. Though Gotham would draw 1-1 at home to Boston Legacy FC, her impact and high potential are clear for all to see.
Why Gotham FC Thinks Shaw Can Reach Another Level
“Jaedyn is first and foremost a very important person in the locker room,” Gotham head coach Juan Carlos Amorós said following the match. “She’s incredibly mature for a 21-year-old and very demanding of herself. She sees the game in a special way and has technical qualities under pressure that are unique.
“Being in the right place at the right time is invaluable, and she does that consistently. She keeps growing and has so much potential. There are still many things we can help her improve, and the great thing is that she wants to improve.”

Shaw’s goal during Saturday’s contest was her 20th career regular-season goal. Only Portland Thorns FC attacker Olivia Moultrie reached the 20-goal mark at a younger age in NWSL history.
Leadership and Consistency Are Growing in Shaw’s Game
After the match, Shaw admitted that Gotham could have been more clinical in the first half. Shaw has developed not only as a footballer but also as a leader in how she is demanding of herself and her desire to push teammates to a higher level.
“A big word for us is consistency,” she stated while speaking in the mixed zone. “We don’t want to just be a second-half team, even though that has historically been the phrase for our team. For us, it’s about honing in on the little details and being consistent as individuals so we can then be consistent as a team. That’s going to be really big for us moving forward this season.”
Gotham FC Looks To Extend Unbeaten Run Against Seattle Reign FC
Shaw and her teammates will have the chance to extend Gotham’s unbeaten streak to five matches when they visit Lumen Field on Friday to face Seattle Reign FC. Gotham currently sits in fifth place in the NWSL standings with 15 points, while Seattle has played one less game and is in eighth place with 11 points.

Friday’s match is scheduled for 10 p.m. Eastern Time and will offer a chance for Shaw to make it four straight matches with either a goal or an assist.
Through nine league matches, Gotham has the best defensive record of any NWSL club, having only conceded five goals all season. There’s certainly another level that can be reached by an attack that features Shaw, Esther González, April’s Rookie of the Month Jordynn Dudley and game-changing midfielder Rose Lavelle — provided she is healthy.
Lavelle missed Saturday’s match due to a hamstring injury after she was named to the NWSL’s Best XI of the Month for April.
“In terms of the severity, it’s not very bad,” Amorós said of Lavelle’s injury. “She is already working on the recovery, so that’s good.”
Once Lavelle, Shaw, Esther and Dudley are back together in attack, Gotham’s offense should be firing on all cylinders once again.
