Gotham FC midfielder Rose Lavelle has sparked the Bats with her all-action performances and was deservingly named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month for April.

The 30-year-old scored two goals in three April starts and led the NWSL with 13 shots. She also shared the league lead with seven shots on target and finished fourth with seven chances created.

“She’s all over the field,” rookie forward Jordynn Dudley said of Lavelle’s box-to-box running and commanding performances.

Lavelle’s Numbers Highlight Her Elite All-Around Impact

Through seven league matches, Lavelle has tallied two goals, tied for fourth among all players with nine shots on target and second overall with 20 shots.

Her driving runs, agile dribbles and ball retention are pushing the Bats on an upward climb in the league table.

Gotham has rolled off three consecutive NWSL victories and opened May with a 1-0 home win over Racing Louisville FC on Sunday.

“She’s been fantastic,” head coach Juan Carlos Amorós said during his post-match press conference. “She didn’t score or assist, but the way she’s playing, helping in the fluidity, helping without the ball — I think she got in the game in midweek 15 recoveries for the team. She was unbelievable. She’s setting the standard and the example.”

The Bats have jumped into fourth place in the NWSL standings with 14 points gained through eight matches played. Gotham trails the first-place Portland Thorns FC (19 points) by five points.

Lavelle and Gotham will look to continue their winning ways when they host Boston Legacy FC on Saturday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The 6:30 p.m. scheduled match will be a rematch of the season opener, which Gotham FC won 1-0 at Gillette Stadium thanks to Esther González’s 55th-minute goal.
