Benny Rodriguez is the latest Red Bull New York Academy product to sign his first professional contract.
He joins Christian Gallagher, Connor Faello, Dennis Nelich and Deven Cadigan, who’ve all recently agreed to MLS NEXT Pro deals.
On Thursday, the 18-year-old winger put pen to paper on a one-year MLS NEXT Pro contract that runs through 2027. The deal includes options for the 2028-29, 2029-30 and 2030-31 seasons.
Rodriguez will join the Red Bull New York first team as a Homegrown Player starting in 2027-28.
Since making his MLS NEXT Pro debut on August 11, 2025, Rodriguez has appeared in 20 MLS NEXT Pro matches, contributing four goals and one assist.
Technical Director Tiger Fitzpatrick Praises Rodriguez’s Development
Red Bull New York technical director Tiger Fitzpatrick has been impressed by Rodriguez’s growth.
“Benny is an exciting football technician whose game has developed and matured across the board,” Fitzpatrick stated. “He has embraced all the challenges put before him this season and has been a key contributor on the field for Red Bulls II this season.
“We look forward to supporting him in his football journey as he takes the next step in his career, joining us with Red Bulls II.”
Wearing the No. 83 shirt, Rodriguez has played in 16 MLS NEXT Pro matches this season and has recorded four goals, one assist, 15 scoring attempts and 15 key passes. Only Nelich (six) has scored more goals for Red Bull II.
Dominik Wohlert on Rodriguez: ‘He Has a Very Interesting Skillset’
Red Bull New York II head coach Dominik Wohlert is excited about Rodriguez’s trajectory and his versatility to play several attacking roles.
“Benny is another player who has shown great progress over the past few months,” Wohlert said. “He has a very interesting skillset, can play any attacking position in midfield and has also stepped up his defensive efforts.
“He’s a creative player who still has the next step in his development ahead of him. We are happy that he sees his future with us.”
Red Bull II currently sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, having collected 32 points through 19 matches. The Baby Bulls next face Crown Legacy FC on Friday with kickoff at MSU Soccer Park scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
