Gotham FC announced on Thursday that star goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger suffered an abdominal injury during Wednesday’s Concacaf W Champions Cup semifinal defeat to Club América.
The reigning NWSL champions released the following statement on Thursday afternoon:
“Gotham FC goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger suffered an abdomen injury during last night’s Concacaf W Champions Cup semifinal. She is under evaluation and receiving care from medical professionals and team physicians in Mexico.”
Berger Taken to Hospital After Semifinal Collision

The 35-year-old netminder was involved in several collisions during Gotham’s 4-1 semifinal defeat to Club América Femenil at Pachuca’s Estadio Hidalgo.
Club América forward Scarlett Camberos crashed into Berger just before the sides went to the halftime break. Berger immediately rolled in pain following the clash. She was attended to by medical staff and was stretchered off the field before being taken to a local hospital.
Backup keeper Shelby Hogan was called into action for the second half and spoke of Berger’s injury following the defeat.
“We’re obviously all behind her, and we’ll support her in any way she needs,” Hogan said. “We were really sad to see her go down, and we wanted to get that win for her.”
Berger currently leads all NWSL goalkeepers with seven shutouts through 10 matches played.
Bats Set To Compete in Third-Place Match

Gotham brought four goalkeepers to the tournament, including Berger and Hogan. Twenty-four-year-old goalkeeper Ryan Campbell and rookie Teagan Wy are among the club’s backup options.
The Bats will face hosts Pachuca in the third-place match on Saturday at Estadio Hidalgo with kick-off scheduled for 6 p.m. Eastern Time. Paramount+ will stream the English-language broadcast while ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ will carry the broadcast in Spanish.
