Gotham FC missed the match-changing presence of influential midfielder Rose Lavelle during Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Boston Legacy FC.
Though several questionable officiating decisions went against the Bats throughout the contest, Lavelle is capable of creating magic from tight spaces and scoring from long range.
Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós gave a positive update on the 30-year-old midfielder who missed Saturday’s contest due to a hamstring injury.
“In terms of the severity, it’s not very bad,” Amorós said during his post-match press conference. “She is already working on the recovery, so that’s good.”
Lavelle was recently named to the NWSL’s Best XI for the month of April. She has played in eight league matches, logging 632 minutes.
The 2025 NWSL Championship Game MVP has scored two goals this season, recorded 10 shots on target, won 11 tackles and completed 77 percent of passes.
“Rose is a fantastic player,” Amorós stated. “She brings so much into the team. She’s been one of our best players these last few games.”
Emily Sonnett Returns After Three-Match Absence
Gotham FC are beginning to receive positive injury news.
Emily Sonnett entered the match in the 65th minute after previously missing three consecutive matches. It was just her fourth career substitute appearance in 173 career regular-season games.

Captain Tierna Davidson played her first 90-minute match for the first time since March 23, 2025.
“She completed her first 90 minutes, so congratulations to her,” Amorós said of Davidson.
Bruninha (hamstring) and Mandy Freeman (lower leg) missed Saturday’s match, while Kayla Duran and Taryn Torres are out for the season due to knee injuries.
“We’re still missing Taryn, Mandy, Bruninha, Kayla – all these people are very important as well,” Amorós said.
With Gotham’s next match coming against Seattle Reign FC on Friday, May 15, perhaps the club will receive encouraging news on the hamstrings of Lavelle and Bruninha and Freeman’s lower leg.
