Gustav Berggren officially sealed his move to defending Polish Ekstraklasa champions Lech Poznań on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old joins Lech Poznań on an undisclosed fee. According to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, the transfer fee agreed between the clubs is around €500,000.
Berggren’s Brief Red Bull New York Tenure Comes to an End

Berggren made 18 MLS appearances for the Red Bulls since he joined the club on July 23, 2025. He recorded three assists in 768 minutes of league play.
“We want to thank Gustav for his professionalism and commitment during his time with our club,” Red Bull New York head of sport Julian de Guzman stated on Wednesday. “He has been a great teammate and person to have within our organization, and we wish him and his family nothing but success in the next chapter of his career.”
Team-First Berggren Embraced Whatever Role Red Bull New York Needed
Though his natural position is central midfield, Berggren was occasionally asked to play center-back and he demonstrated a team-first attitude by stepping into a back line role without complaints.
“I’m a team player,” Berggren said in April. “I need to help the team. If I can help the team by playing central defender, I will do that. No matter where, I will do my best to try to help the team.
“I prefer to be a midfielder, but it’s alright, it’s fun to play. It’s a big difference from playing in the midfield. I need to learn and adapt.”
The August 1 home victory over Orlando City SC was Berggren’s final appearance for the Red Bulls, where he played the entire 90 minutes in a 3-2 win at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
As the Red Bulls continue to trend younger, it’s possible that Nehuén Benedetti and Red Bull New York II youngsters like Nate Worth could be in line to grab first-team roles.
Red Bull New York will face Atlanta United on Saturday, with kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
