Gotham FC has traded forward Gabi Portilho to San Diego Wave FC in exchange for $175,000 in intraleague transfer funds. The move was announced on Monday afternoon.

Portilho departs Gotham after spending one season with the club. The 30-year-old helped the Bats capture the Concacaf W Champions Cup and the NWSL Championship in 2025.

Yael Averbuch West, Gotham FC’s general manager and head of soccer operations, recognized Portilho’s contributions during her lone season in a sky blue, Gotham black and cloud white uniform.

“Gabi has been an important part of our club’s success since she joined us, and we’re thankful for everything she brought to Gotham FC,” Averbuch West said. “We wish her all the best as she moves forward in her career.”

Portilho scored three goals and notched three assists in 17 NWSL regular-season appearances for the club. The Brazilian international scored in her NWSL regular-season debut on March 15, registering the lone goal in a 1-1 road draw against Seattle Reign FC.

Averbuch West and head coach Juan Carlos Amorós have successfully blended Gotham’s veterans with emerging youthful talents in recent years. A trio of rookie forwards, Jordynn Dudley, Andrea Kitahata and Talia Sommer, are among the Bats’ summer recruits.

San Diego’s general manager and sporting director, Camille Ashton, is pleased to add Portilho’s experience to the Wave’s attacking options.

“Gabi is an impactful attacking player with championship experience, and we’re excited to welcome her to San Diego,” Ashton said. “She’s a versatile player who competes at a high level on both sides of the ball. Gabi has consistently performed on the biggest stages for club and country, and her quality, work rate, and winning mentality will elevate our attacking group and add another competitive edge to our squad.”

The Wave finished sixth overall in the NWSL last season and were eliminated by the third-place Portland Thorns FC in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 NWSL playoffs.
