Gotham FC Captain Tierna Davidson Urges Bats to Find Final Third ‘Bite’

Tierna Davidson believes that Gotham FC have been trending in a positive direction despite the Bats being shut out by opponents in three consecutive home matches.

The 27-year-old captain spoke in the mixed zone following Gotham’s scoreless draw to the Orlando Pride on Sunday.

“I think it’s about taking it one game at a time,” Davidson said. “Looking at our last game to this game, we’ve seen a lot of improvements in our control of the ball, decision making and defensive structure. Those were things we wanted to improve. Often, the last thing to come is the connections in the final third to be able to score. I’m happy with our progression from Wednesday to today.”

Gotham owned 61 percent of possession, earned 11 corner kick opportunities, but managed just two shots on goal.

Davidson believes that the Bats are lacking their usual “bite” in the box.

“We also want to continue working on decisiveness in the final third, clinical finishing, that bite in the box and capitalizing on set pieces,” she explained. “We had quite a few corners and set pieces today, so we want to use those as big opportunities to get shots on frame.”

Captain’s Message: Balance Urgency with Perspective

As Gotham’s captain, Davidson is instructing teammates to focus on fine-tuning details while staying within a game-by-game approach.

“You need the right balance,” she said. “It’s important to demand excellence and not be content with good enough – but there are also moments where you need to move on and have a goldfish mentality. Especially in a three-game week, you take what you need from a game and leave the rest behind. You want to be detail-oriented, but you don’t want to linger too long.”

Davidson and her Gotham teammates will need to prepare for a challenging road meeting with the Kansas City Current, who captured last season’s NWSL Shield and set several regular-season league records in 2025 by achieving 65 points, 21 wins and 16 clean sheets.

“Going into Kansas City, a tough away environment, we’re excited,” she said. “I’m happy to be back on the field helping the team, and hopefully working toward a start.”

It’s possible that Davidson could make her first start against Kansas City after playing 74 total minutes across three matches in her recovery from a torn ACL injury sustained against the Houston Dash last March.

Gotham and Kansas City most recently squared off in a memorable playoff quarterfinal in November 2025, where the Bats shocked many leading experts by defeating the No. 1-seeded Current in extra time at CPKC Stadium.

Neither club has gotten off to a hot start, with Gotham currently in ninth place (one win, one loss, two draws, five points) and Kansas City sitting in 13th overall (one win, three losses, three points).

Both clubs will be looking to turn their season around. Perhaps a rematch of last year’s feisty playoff encounter will produce a riveting match on Saturday.
