Bradley Wright-Phillips will soon become the second player in the history of Red Bull New York to be inducted into Sports Illustrated Stadium’s Legends Row.
Longtime goalkeeper Luis Robles became the first player in club history to receive the honor on July 17, 2022.
Wright-Phillips will be inducted when the Red Bulls host FC Dallas on May 2.
The now 41-year-old scored 126 goals across 240 appearances for New York in all competitions during an over six-year spell with the club.
Wright-Phillips Surprised by Announcement During MLS Broadcast
Former Red Bulls teammate and fellow MLS on Apple TV analyst Sacha Kljestan surprised Wright-Phillips with the news at halftime of New York’s Saturday match against FC Charlotte during MLS 360 coverage.
Wright-Phillips was congratulated by Kljestan as well as former teammates Dax McCarty and Thierry Henry. His half-brother Shaun Wright-Phillips also joined Bradley for two seasons with the club. He, former Red Bull New York head coach Jesse Marsch and several other former players and Apple TV talents shared their tributes.
After joining the Red Bulls in partway through the 2013 season, Wright-Phillips would earn the MLS Golden Boot by scoring 27 goals in 32 league matches in his first full season with the club in 2014. He would again achieve the honor by recording 24 goals in 34 MLS matches in 2016.
The South London native was named to the MLS Best XI in 2014 and 2016. In all, Wright-Phillips registered 108 goals in 195 career MLS regular-season matches.
His number 99 uniform was retired by the Red Bulls on August 5, 2018. Wright-Phillips is the only player to date to have his uniform number retired by the organization.
Supporters attending the May 2 match are encouraged to stay for the post-match Legends Row ceremony to honor Wright-Phillips. The first 10,000 fans will receive a commemorative pin.
