Defending NWSL champions Gotham FC are planning a major announcement on Tuesday at Citi Field.
Could the Bats soon be taking the field at the big ballpark in Queens?
Lately, Gotham has been hinting at a potential upcoming March 17 announcement with plenty of baseball references on their social media channels. There have been nods to the 1986 World Series champion New York Mets, along with Gotham players wearing their brand-new orange and blue “Lady Liberty” third kit.
All signs seem to be pointing to a historic match at Citi Field, and there’s one summer date that seems to have been set aside.
The Bats will host NWSL championship runner-ups the Washington Spirit in a rematch of the 2025 NWSL final on July 15 at 7 p.m. Eastern time, though the venue for that match is yet to be determined.
It would make sense for reigning NWSL champions Gotham to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1986 Mets’ World Series championship victory over the Boston Red Sox by playing a match on Queens soil, clad in orange and blue at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park.
