When Gotham FC opens NWSL league play on Saturday, March 14, head coach Juan Carlos Amorós and his familiar team of assistants and technical staff will take charge, hoping to add more silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet.
The Bats closed 2025 with double delight by winning the 2025 NWSL Championship in November after capturing the 2024–25 CONCACAF W Champions Cup in May.
Amorós returns with a track record of sustained success. He will enter his fifth NWSL season, having previously served as interim head coach of the Houston Dash.
Since taking over as Gotham head coach in November 2022, Amorós owns an incredible 60.1 winning percentage. He is yet to lose an NWSL Championship final.
Gotham returns a nine-person staff and hopes to build on last season’s franchise-record 11 shutouts.

Club general manager and head of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West believes that Gotham’s staff is capable of elite player development while continuing the push for lofty goals.
“We are proud to continue with a staff that operates at the highest level of our sport,” Averbuch West said. “As we continue evolving and refining our processes, we remain committed to pushing our environment forward and building on the success we’ve established together.”
Averbuch West: ‘Our Players Are Never Satisfied, Our Staff Is Never Satisfied’
On Tuesday, Averbuch West also took time to address Gotham supporters ahead of the new NWSL campaign.
“Now we go again. In a league designed for parity, sustained success is one of the hardest things to achieve,” she said. “Every year resets. Every opponent improves. There are no guarantees, no shortcuts. We have to do the work to ensure continued progress.
“One of our goals is to be a perennial top-four NWSL team and a true Shield contender. We want consistency. We want to be playing our best soccer in the playoffs, and we want our regular season performance to reflect the championship standards we hold. Winning a couple times is special. Building something that endures is different. That is the work in front of us.

“You’ll notice we have retained the core of our roster. That was intentional. We believe deeply in this group. At the same time, we have been meticulous about the additions we have made, players who elevate the environment, raise the competitive level, and align with who we are and where we are going.
“We are refining our preparation and strengthening the structures that support winning now and winning in the future. We want to be a championship team with regular-season bona fides to match. We want our identity to be clear, our standards to be high, and our consistency to be undeniable.
“One thing that continues to define us is our relentlessly competitive nature. Our players are never satisfied. Our staff is never satisfied. And you should never be satisfied, either. That edge, that constant push for more, is what drives growth and sustains excellence.”
