Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amorós revealed during Saturday’s press conference that star duo Rose Lavelle and Jaedyn Shaw will miss Sunday’s road match against the Orlando Pride.

Lavelle and Shaw are being held out due to precautionary reasons as both are dealing with knocks.

“With Rose and with Jaedyn, we’re trying to be precautionary,” Amorós explained. “They got some knocks from training, from the games. Obviously, we could see Jaedyn couldn’t really come back fully after the camp. That’s why she didn’t play last week. Then with Rose also, she picked up a little knock in the last game and through training. So for us, it’s always first the health of the players. So that’s why tomorrow they will not be with the team.”

Midfielder Sofia Cook is continuing to work her way back from an ankle injury.

“Sofia is here,” Amorós said. “She’s training with us. She’s not going to be probably playing. But we’re trying to get her involved in the day-to-day of the club as much as possible. She’s been out without completing a full training session for 154 days until the other day she completed the first training session. She will be probably rostering, but she will not be playing.”

Cook most recently appeared for Gotham FC in a scoreless draw against Angel City FC on August 23.

As Gotham FC chases its first NWSL Shield, there will be an opportunity for some depth players to receive valuable minutes on Sunday.

Midfielder Savannah McCaskill has only played for 10 minutes since mid-September. Rookies Talia Sommer and Andrea Kitahata and veterans Taryn Torres, Meredith Speck and Tess Boade could be in line to receive increased game time.

Defender Leila Ouahabi and forward Olivia Wingate are also being acclimated to Gotham’s style of play given their recent arrivals.

Gotham FC will play its final road match of the regular season on Sunday. Kickoff at Inter.co Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern Time. CBS Sports Network will carry the broadcast.
