Gotham FC midfielder Rose Lavelle is participating in on-field drills, which is a positive sign after she suffered a concussion in a scoreless road draw against Angel City FC on August 23.
The 31-year-old United States women’s national team star ran wind sprints and took part in solo drills throughout Tuesday’s open training session held in Whippany, New Jersey.
Until she is cleared from concussion protocol, Lavelle will remain limited to individual training.
Juan Carlos Amorós Returns, Lavelle Reportedly Agrees to Extension
Head coach Juan Carlos Amorós was also on hand, though the training session was led by Gotham FC lead assistant coach Shaun Harris. South Ward Central reported on Monday that Amorós will be gradually reintegrated into the team after he returned from a five-week parental leave.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Kassouf, Lavelle has agreed to a contract extension with Gotham through 2029 — though the club is yet to make an official announcement.
Sofia Cook Remains Out of Training, Savannah McCaskill Avoids Injury After Collision
Midfielder Sofia Cook was held out of practice as she continues to recover from a lower-leg injury. The injury kept her from participating in last Friday’s 1-1 home draw against Portland Thorns FC.
Late during a scrimmage, midfielder Savannah McCaskill was involved in a hard collision. The 30-year-old eventually got to her feet and continued on through the end of open training. South Ward Central later learned that McCaskill avoided injury.
Gotham FC will begin a three-game road trip starting with a visit to Centennial Stadium to face Denver Summit FC on Sunday.
