South Ward Central can confirm that former North Carolina Courage head coach Sean Nahas has been assisting Gotham FC in an ongoing consultant role for several weeks.
South Ward Central understands that Nahas’ visiting role is not a full-time position, and he is currently not a member of Gotham’s technical staff.
Last Thursday, South Ward Central sat down one-on-one with Gotham FC head coach Juan Carlos Amorós, who explained Nahas’ role.
Amorós Discusses Nahas’ Responsibilities

“Now, we’ve got Sean Nahas, and that helps us on the methodology,” Amorós said.
Amorós briefly spoke about Nahas in a larger conversation with South Ward Central about coaching staff roles, delegating staff roles and his overall coaching philosophies. Check back Tuesday for our full exclusive interview with Amorós.
During his press conference following Sunday’s 1-0 victory over the Houston Dash, Amorós also mentioned Nahas and his role.
“We go out working with so many players, and now we’ve got Sean Nahas to be also with us to help out with methodology,” he explained. “I think we’ve got a great technical team that really supports the players in the best way.”
Nahas Led North Carolina Courage to Multiple Playoff Appearances

Nahas was installed as interim head coach of the Courage on October 6, 2021, following the firing of Paul Riley as part of the response to the 2021 NWSL abuse scandal.
He was officially promoted to head coach by the Courage on December 1 of that year. Nahas helped North Carolina win the 2022 NWSL Challenge Cup during his spell as head coach.
Nahas was fired by the Courage on August 6, 2025. At the time, the club offered a short statement that Nahas’ contract had been “terminated.”
Two days later, on August 8, the organization further clarified why Nahas was relieved of his head coaching duties in a statement:
“The termination stemmed from a combination of compounding performance issues, culture issues, and a perceived lack of fit that created an environment that club leadership felt was untenable to the point that change was necessary at the head coaching position.”
Nahas guided the Courage to three NWSL playoff appearances and a 36-35-19 overall record. He was replaced by Nathan Thackeray, who served as acting head coach last season.
Current North Carolina head coach Mak Lind became the third permanent head coach in Courage history on January 24 of this year.
