Gotham FC will break their club attendance record when they take the pitch at Citi Field against the Washington Spirit in the July 15 Queens Classic.
Over 16,000 tickets have already been distributed just over a month after tickets went on sale on March 25. Rivals Gotham and Washington will meet at Citi Field in a rematch of the 2025 NWSL Championship, which Rose Lavelle won on an 80th-minute goal.
Citi Field will accommodate a capacity of over 40,000 for the much-anticipated match which will kick off at 8 p.m. Eastern Time and will be carried on ESPN.
First Women’s Sporting Event at Citi Field Marks Milestone Moment
The previous club attendance record was set during the 2024 NWSL playoff quarterfinal against Bay FC when 15,569 spectators gathered inside Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Citi Field will be a much larger venue, and the summer match on the baseball diamond represents growth for Gotham and the NWSL as a whole. It will also be a historic night as it will be the first women’s sporting event held at Citi Field.

Gotham FC captain Tierna Davidson is looking forward to playing in front of fans who might be attending an NWSL match for the first time.
“Any opportunity to be in front of new fans is an opportunity for us to recruit fans and to get people interested and excited and wanting to come back,” Davidson said. “We have a product that I think is very exciting. We have fantastic players individually that people love to follow, but I think that’s reflected when we create a really entertaining game.
“We hope that people see that as they’re coming to this Citi Field game and want to follow us back out to Sports Illustrated [Stadium]. I think it’s always a fantastic opportunity to be in front of new fans, in front of families.”
Queens Classic Arrives During ‘The Summer of Soccer’ in New York

Gotham FC club governor and owner Carolyn Tisch Blodgett spoke to South Ward Central at the March 17 Queens Classic press announcement.
She hopes that the event will be a transformative event that turns first-time matchgoers into lifelong fans.
“There’s nothing more powerful than being able to experience the product live,” Tisch Blodgett said. “So for people that may have heard of Gotham and seen us on TV and don’t know what Gotham is to come out, experience the product live, our hope, our dream is that really converts people into lifelong fans.”
The July 15 match at Citi Field comes days before the July 19 FIFA Men’s World Cup Final is held at MetLife Stadium in nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Many are calling this “The Summer of Soccer,” and Gotham will have a night to shine under the lights of Citi Field.
