One day after Gotham FC signed fellow midfielder Jaelin Howell to a contract extension through 2028, the club followed by extending Savannah McCaskill’s contract through 2028 on Friday.
McCaskill rejoined Gotham in January after previously playing for the club in its former incarnation as Sky Blue FC during her first two seasons in the NWSL in 2018 and 2019.
So far this season, the 29-year-old midfielder has started in each of Gotham’s five NWSL matches and has recorded one assist.
“Being back at Gotham has meant a lot to me, and I’m excited to continue here,” McCaskill said. “This club has been part of my journey from the start, and I’m motivated to keep building with this team and competing for championships.”
McCaskill was re-acquired by Gotham on January 2 in a trade that sent $175,000 in intraleague transfer funds to San Diego Wave FC. She made her first appearance under head coach Juan Carlos Amorós during the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup at London’s Gtech Community Stadium.
The Bats finished in third place in the inaugural tournament.
Yael Averbuch West Praises McCaskill’s Experience
Gotham FC general manager and head of soccer operations Yael Averbuch West was quick to extend the experienced midfielder, who offers leadership, long passes and box-to-box running.
“Savannah brings experience in this league and a steady presence in the midfield,” Averbuch West said. “We’re pleased to have her continue with us.”

Gotham Looks To Turn Season Around After Slow Start
Through five games, Gotham sits 13th overall in the NWSL standings after losing 2-1 to the Kansas City Current on April 4. The defending league champions have started their title defense slowly, only scoring a total of two goals.
It’s been a work in progress through the early weeks of the 2026 season. Injuries limited the Bats from fielding their strongest starting XI, and acquisitions like McCaskill are still adapting to teammates and becoming accustomed to Amorós’ system.
While no one is hitting the panic button and defensive efforts have been strong, Gotham should be finding the back of the net regularly, given the talent available, even when key players have been missing from the lineup.
Gotham will host Bay FC on April 25 after the international break concludes. It will be a chance for the Bats to kick their season into gear.
