Wiki Carmona arrived at Sports Illustrated Stadium and proceeded to torment his former team by scoring twice in CF Montréal’s surprise 3-0 victory over Red Bull New York on Sunday.
The Red Bulls entered the match atop the Eastern Conference standings after rolling off consecutive victories to open the new campaign under first-year head coach Michael Bradley.
Montréal was expected to struggle against the Red Bulls after opening the 2026 season at the very bottom of the MLS table with zero goals for and eight goals against.
The visitors looked like an entirely different team on Sunday. Prince Owusu got Montréal out to an eighth-minute lead when he converted a penalty in the bottom right corner past the outstretched arm of Ethan Horvath.
Though the Red Bulls owned 63 percent of possession and won several corners, it did not produce a breakthrough.
Bradley Sees Positives After 3-0 Defeat
Carmona scored a driven free kick in the 44th minute to send the visitors into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
“The first half wasn’t what we wanted, but there have been a million examples of teams that go into halftime down 2-0 and find a way to get the first goal and get themselves back in the game,” Bradley said. “I thought even at halftime we still had really good chances to play and find the next goal and really push in a strong way.”

In the second half, Carmona would put the match out of reach in the 68th minute when a mix-up between Horvath and his defenders allowed the Venezuelan wide midfielder to score his second goal of the match.
Carmona was acquired by Montréal on February 9 in exchange for defender Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty.
So far, Marshall-Rutty has been an excellent addition to New York’s backline, but the day belonged to Carmona and his Montréal teammates, who pounced on Red Bull mistakes and bullied the hosts with their physicality.
Red Bull New York will travel north of the border next weekend to face Toronto FC on Saturday, March 14.
Toronto’s attack has been bolstered by the addition of United States international Josh Sargent, who arrived on a club record transfer fee from Norwich City.
The Red Bulls can’t afford to be error-prone like they were on Sunday and come out sharper against Toronto.
