Rose Lavelle took Gotham FC’s captain’s armband and did everything in her power to spark the Bats back to their usual goalscoring ways.
Unfortunately for Gotham supporters, Lavelle and her teammates were unable to find the back of the net in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against the visiting Orlando Pride.
Amorós Praises Lavelle’s Leadership and Impact
Gotham head coach Juan Carlos Amorós saluted Lavelle for pushing hard until the final whistle in search of a match-changing moment. Sometimes, the result doesn’t come despite all the right application and effort.
“She is such a special player,” Amorós stated. “I told her at the end, her performance today, how she took responsibility and really tried to find any way that she could find to win, it was admirable.
“I think that she brings so much on and off the pitch. She sees things in a way that helps the team, and helps us, and the technical team. She’s amazing. She’s one of our captains, she’s one of the people that drives this club forward. To work with her every day is a privilege.”

Sunday was one of those nights where Lavelle and Gotham didn’t get a reward of three points despite owning 61 percent of possession. It also happened to be Lavelle’s 100th career regular-season NWSL match.
The defending NWSL champions have scored only one goal through four league matches and were shut out in three consecutive home games following their 1-0 away victory over Boston Legacy FC to open the 2026 NWSL campaign.
That dip likely won’t continue for much longer because top-tier players like Lavelle have that little something extra.
Lavelle Reacts to 100th NWSL Match
The 30-year-old midfielder reflected on her 100 NWSL matches played milestone.
“I feel really, really lucky and fortunate with all the experiences that I’ve gotten to have doing this and all of the people I’ve gotten to do it with,” she said. “I sound like a broken record. I always say this. I get to do what I love with the people I love, it’s the best job ever.”
Lavelle will continue to be Gotham’s driving force in NWSL match 101, 102 and counting.
