Gotham FC goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger always dreamed of putting on the championship bling.

The 35-year-old German international previously captured four Women’s Super League championships with Chelsea FC but she never received an American style title ring. That will change on Saturday night when she and her Gotham teammates will receive their championship rings following the home opener against the North Carolina Courage during an on-pitch post-match ceremony.

“I never thought I would have a ring like that,” Berger said. “When I was younger, I watched a lot of the NFL, and it was a huge thing.”

Gotham’s ring was designed in collaboration with The Champions Collective. It features a gold star that symbolizes the club’s second NWSL championship.

“To come to Gotham and win a ring yourself is quite special,” she said. “I had to explain to my German and English friends that it’s a big deal to have something like that. I’m really looking forward to it. I think I was almost more excited to get the ring than winning the championship because it’s the symbol that you made it.”

It is engraved with “2025 NWSL Champions,” the team’s motto: “Always building, never finished,” the November 22, 2025 championship game date and the player’s name and signature.

Now into her mid-30s Berger hasn’t shown any sign of slowing down as a top class keeper for Gotham and Germany.

“First of all, I think age is just a number,” she stated. “Sometimes I feel my age, and sometimes I feel younger. It’s about how you feel and how you deal with it mentally. I love playing soccer. I train to win, and that’s my motivation because that’s what I’m here for.

“If I didn’t want to win, I could just go to the gym and do something else. I love being in a sports environment and being around the team. I have people around me —goalkeeper coaches, coaches, my teammates, the other goalkeepers — they push me every single day. Sometimes I need that push to be better, and that’s what I love.”

Saturday should be a special day for Gotham players and their supporters will get to soak in the ring ceremony and championship banner unveiling.
